Solomon Systech Launches a Breakthrough TDDI IC

Solomon Systech Limited ("Solomon Systech"), a leading semiconductor company specializing in the design, development and sales of proprietary display IC products and system solutions, today announced the launch of a new touch and display integration (TDDI) IC, SSD2023U, supporting Full high-definition (FHD+) (1080 x 2160) In-Cell LTPS panel technologies. It is a breakthrough product to capture the new market trend of high resolution smartphones with a bezel-less screen and an aspect ratio of 18:9.

SSD2023U helps LCD manufacturers and smartphone makers overcome the challenge of integrating the Home and Fingerprint button into the screen to maximize the display area by its breakthrough design and features: 

  1. Single-layer COF Design to Enable the Best “Bezel-less” Display and Minimize Cost

SSD2023U’s Chip-on-Film (COF) design, unlike traditional Chip-on-Glass (COG) design, helps achieve the best "bezel-less" display. Currently the 1st tier “bezel-less” smartphones in market, adopting the traditional COG design, virtually achieve no bezels on the side and top, and only a thin bottom edge of 4-4.3mm. 

However, the unique circuit design of SSD2023U adopting high-speed multiplexing technology which enables the use of Chip-on-Film (COF) design, helps further reduce the bottom edge to only 2.7mm, and allows end users to experience more close to completely bezel-less display.  Moreover, that only a single layer design of COF is used helps minimize the cost of production. 

  1. Images Scalable Up to FHD+ for 18:9 Aspect Ratio

Currently Application Processors (AP) for smartphones in the market generally support only HD or FHD. SSD2023U, with its integrated IP engine, allows smartphone makers to overcome this challenge and scale up images to FHD+ (1080 x 2160) to match the aspect ratio of 18:9.

"Bezel-less" screen often pose the threat of false touch detections. SSD2023U, with advanced patented maXTouch® touchscreen technologies, enables unrivaled user touch experience: 

  • Smart Edge Grip Suppression:

distinguishes finger, palm and thumb, allows holding and scrolling simultaneously and avoid false touch.

  • Superior Moisture Tracking:

allows 2-finger tracking in the presence of moisture

  • Unmatched Touch Sensitivity:

supports minimum 1.5mm passive stylus

  • Excellent Touch Performance:

super high SNR (Signal-to-Noise) of up to 50dB; ultra-fast touch reporting rate of 120Hz

  1. Ultra-low Power Wake-up Gesture Detection At Sleep Mode

SSD2023U supports wake-up gesture detection with ultra-low power consumption of <2.6mW at sleep mode.
