LED Flicker Mitigation
High resolution that boasts sufficient information volumes during wide-angle imaging
In general, if the resolution of the image sensor is kept the same, then widening the angle of view of the lens reduces the resolution (amount of information) per unit area of the image acquired. Conversely, if the angle of view of the lens is narrow, it is possible to increase the resolution per unit area, but the area that can be imaged becomes smaller.
In order to widen the angle of view of the lens (and increase the area imaged) without reducing the resolution per unit of area, it is necessary to use a high resolution image sensor. The Sony's lineup of automotive image sensors includes high resolution models, so it is possible to select the sensor to meet the needs of the customer.

High sensitivity and HDR performance that surpass the human eye
When driving along a dark night road that is only lit by starlight, human eyes cannot detect objects outside of the area lit by the headlights. Even in a situation like that, the high sensitivity automotive image sensors from Sony can reliably recognize the surroundings and contribute to active safety on the automobile.
Furthermore, even in images acquired from scenes that have extreme contrast, such as in a scene brightly lit with sunlight when the sun is setting, if an Sony automotive image sensor with HDR performance of 120 dB is used, then it is possible to reliably capture the objects in everywhere from the bright regions to the dark regions, without the common problem of blowout or blackout.

Suppressing the flicker specific to LED light sources to correctly recognize indications
LEDs have now become the main light source used on traffic lights, signs and the rear lights on automobiles, but the structure of LEDs means that flicker can occur when they are imaged with a camera in some imaging conditions, and this has an adverse effect on Automated Driving/ADAS. The automotive image sensors from Sony solve this problem with LED flicker mitigation technology (LFM) and contribute to the improved recognition of traffic lights and signs in a large number of situations.
