USB Type-C PD Power Adapter Solution
With worldwide consumers becoming increasingly aware of the need to conserve energy, OEM and ODM manufacturers are looking for solutions to enable improved charging efficiency and extended device battery life for their products.
 
USB Power Delivery (USB PD) is a power supply technology defined by the USB Implementers Forum (USB IF). Historically, the maximum power delivery of the USB port was defined as 2.5W for USB 2.0 and 4.5W for USB 3.0. However, these power levels are too low to support the fast charging requirements of large-capacity batteries. Subsequently, the USB PD specification was raised to 65W and then to 100W, utilizing a new, Type-C connector. The Type-C connector, which does not have orientation challenges of older USB types, can also support a higher current, and hence higher charging speed, than the traditional USB connectors.
 
Recently, the USB IF announced the USB PD charging specification version 3.1, which increased the USB PD power level from 100W to a maximum of 240W. This large step forward in power delivery makes USB PD applicable in more devices and the list of supported devices was greatly expanded, adding more high-performance devices such as gaming laptops.
