Smarter Steps: Wireless Compute in Connected Motion

Smarter Motion with Efficient Compute
As motors become more connected and intelligent, the challenge is no longer limited to achieving precise control. Modern motor systems must simultaneously execute real-time field-oriented control (FOC), maintain wireless connectivity, and perform on-device AI, all within tight power, memory, and latency constraints. Silicon Labs' MG24 Wireless SoC addresses this need by using its integrated Matrix Vector Processor (MVP) as a dedicated hardware accelerator to offload complex, mathematically intensive tasks from the main ARM Cortex-M33 CPU. Under specific AI/ML inference workloads, it delivers up to a 4x increase in inference performance while reducing power consumption by up to 6x. For digital signal processing, it efficiently handles standard tasks like filtering sensor data by accelerating the underlying vector math. By offloading these workloads, the MG24 minimizes data movement and allows the main CPU to focus on critical tasks like maintaining Bluetooth connectivity and executing motor control logic, delivering deterministic, energy-efficient performance that makes it an ideal platform for always-on edge AI motor control.
